My prompt for the bibliography
-In class we’ve spent a lot of time talking about the classical idea of the qualities that can be found in a tragic hero. Choose 2 of the following characters – Hamlet, Laertes, Antigone, Blanche Dubois, Torvald Helmer, Troy Maxson, Rose Maxson- and argue whether or not they should be considered tragic heroes and why you came to your conclusion. Note: You cannot choose to write on two characters from the same play. You must choose characters from different plays.
An annotated bibliography is just like a regular bibliography, only with the addition of annotations- brief descriptions of each source that summarize the source’s points and explain the source’s relevance to your research project. Annotations should be brief, around 100-150 words, (a good target to shoot for is about 5-6 sentences per annotation). Writing a good annotation can be trickier than you think, because it can be difficult to sum up a source that makes a complex or intricate argument in only 5 sentences or so. Annotated bibliographies can be very helpful to people researching a topic, since annotations are a quick way to determine if a source will be useful to you or not. The purpose of this assignment is threefold:
So you can demonstrate that you know how to write a properly formatted bibliography
So you can practice writing annotations
So you will theoretically have all your research done for your research paper before you start drafting it
Since your research paper requires you to use five (5) secondary sources appropriate for an academic paper, for this project you will find those five sources, write properly formatted MLA bibliographic entries, and include an annotation for each source. You should consult the ‘English 2 Final Research Paper Assignment Sheet Fall 2020’ for guidelines on what you’ll be writing your Final Research Paper about. The goal for the Annotated Bibliography is to find all of your research for your Final Research Paper ahead of time. Failing to follow the research requirements will result in failure for the assignment
N.B.: Sparknotes, Wikipedia, Shmoop, Yahoo Voices, Gradesaver, 123help me, the Dictionary, etc are not considered appropriate academic sources.
