Write a personalized essay about an important local issue you have been exposed to through a purposeful experience and some carefully targeted research (only 1 additional research source). The “experiential” concept means that you will write about a carefully planned experience for this assignment.
Requirements:

3 pages in correct MLA style
1 carefully-selected research source (in addition to your description of your experience)
a separate Works Cited page (see the video below)
The experience and your reflections on it should constitute most of this essay. This paper describes, narrates, and reflects on your experience.

The research portion should occupy no more than 15% of the paper — you’ll practice this in DB-5, and I will provide detailed feedback on each student’s handling of the source material when I grade the paper, but there can only be one source.

Papers that look more like a “research report” on a topic will not pass because that is not the given assignment. I’ve had problems with cooperation on this in the past, so I’m emphasizing this here — only one research source.

This term, students will choose from several general tracks for the experiential project. Your experience must be appropriately documented through a signature page, a photo, an email interview, etc. There is a separate link to submit any kind of documentation you have.

I chose Option B: Students can design or participate in a planned experience with a focus on environmentalism, waste reduction, or consumption issues. Examples include participating in a river clean-up, attempting and logging a trash-reduction week at home or at work, and analyzing/changing the foods we consume. For ideas, check out Collin Beavan’s “No Impact Man” project online, read some of Michael Pollan’s essays, or look at the St. John’s River Keeper website.

This Assignment needs to be on better eating habits Perhaps you could log various elements of this — does the healthier eating cost more? take longer to prepare? impact the baby’s digestion?
