Your investigative essay will be based on the articles about the intercultural differences in writing that are available in Files on Canvas and which you find yourself online and/or in a library. It should include six main components:
Component 1: Brief background information about the topic of the essay (in the Introduction).
Component 2: A specific topic/question which you are going to discuss in the essay (in the Introduction).
Component 3: Different views, opinions, and/or approaches connected with the specific topic of the essay (in the Body of the essay).
Component 4: Some evidence that each of these views, opinions, and/or approaches is based on (in the Body of the essay).
Component 5: Your personal conclusions about the most promising/well-justified points of view and approaches regarding the importance of the topic as well as its potential future prospects and/or expected future trends in its further development (in the Conclusion).
Other Important Considerations
Your writing should follow MLA conventions.
In your investigative essay, you are expected to use at least six-seven articles related to the topic of the essay. Most of these articles can be the materials posted to Files on Canvas. However, you also need to find and use in your essay at least two-three additional articles (or any other appropriate outside sources) which you will be able to find online or in a library.
The full list of the outside sources cited in the essay should be provided on a separate “Works Cited” page.
The essay should include a title page formatted according to MLA rules and standards; but it doesn’t need to have an MLA header in the left upper corner of the first page after the title page.
The essay needs to have a title reflecting its main idea; it means that the title of the essay needs to be directly connected with the specific question/topic discussed in the essay (e. g. “Differences in the Degree of Directness and Linearity in Academic Writing in Different Languages and Cultures”); the title should be not longer than 20 words in total.
Your essay is expected to be approximately 4-6 pages long (not considering the title page).
Your writing should cover a specific topic connected with the intercultural differences in writing.
Choose the particular topic/question to be discussed in your essay carefully before writing, based on your personal preferences/current knowledge of the topic and the available outside sources.
