Literary analysis essay
Length: 700 words (+/- 50 words). Leave a word count at the end of the essay. Underline your thesis statement AND the topic sentences of your supporting paragraphs (introductions and conclusions are not supporting paragraphs). Your thesis must be only one sentence, and it must be placed at the end of your introduction. Double space and use a 12-point font. The font must be Times New Roman. Number your pages. A title page is not required, but your essay must have a title—one that is informative. A Works Cited page is not required unless you use secondary material. If you do use secondary material, review Langara’s policy concerning plagiarism. Essays will be sent to Turnitin to maintain standards for academic integrity. Ask me if you have any concerns in this regard. When you quote the story you are discussing, simply give the page number in parentheses (43). CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TOPICS 1. A conspicuously repeated word in ‘A Rose for Emily’(by Faulkner) is “generation.” Explain how this word is relevant to a theme in the story.
These are topics only. You’ll need to develop a specific thesis from the topic you choose. Make a specific claim about the story and then defend that claim. Any essay that is not on one of the above topics will not be accepted.
