TOPIC: NURSING ALARM FATIGUE. (The purpose of using clinical alarms is to alert the healthcare team that the patient has deviated from their normal status. The constant beeping from machines have caused nurses to become desensitized, which has led to a decrease in reaction time due to alarm fatigue. Sensory overload has become the new norm, as nurses find themselves responding to false alarms or ignoring them all together. This psychological toll has led to an increase in disabling and/or silencing alarms in order to minimize the auditory burden. Apparently, the devices designed to enhance patient safety are now contributing to possible harm or detrimental effects.)
