Mythology – How does myth define us?
I need a response of at least 200 words each to the two posts I uploaded that were made by other students.
Just for background the original question posed was:
What potential detriment exists to viewing myth as building blocks of our own humanity? How might a more objective or slightly analytical view of these myths help us work around some of these potentially detrimental elements? Please be specific and provide at least one example from a myth that defines you (perhaps an origin story like those Bhatt discusses). Do you think it’s possible to do both — to acknowledge the foundational importance of myth in our lives while also providing some distance between us and the myth via objective analysis? Why or why not?
We were told to watch this video https://www.ted.com/talks/chetan_bhatt_dare_to_refuse_the_origin_myths_that_claim_who_you_are/transcript?language=en and read the “Ways of Interpreting Myth” handout which I will also include in the files. I don’t think it is necessary to do either in order to form a response to the other students but I want to make sure you have all the required info for background if needed.
