Newspaper Analysis

For the assignment, you will need to locate a news article from an accredited source that has something to do with the class material.

Note: You CANNOT use the same topic or article that you used for Newspaper Analysis 1. For example, if your first analysis was about intimate partner violence, this analysis cannot be about another intimate partner violence case.

Approved news sources are: city or state newspapers (e.g., The Omaha World Heard, The Los Angeles Times, The Buffalo News, CNN, MSN, ABC, FOX, NBC, CBS, BBC, NPR, Time, Newsweek, Wall Street Journal). Should you be concerned about whether the news source is appropriate, please feel free to check with me.

NOTE: The newspaper article that you select MUST be about a specific case, not just a general story about crime. For example, you may choose to review a newspaper article about the Stanford rape case, but you may not review an article that is about rape/sexual assault in general.

Additional information:

· The newspaper article must have been published on or after January 1, 2017.

· Your paper must be double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font with one-inch margins. Minimum length is 3 pages of text, excluding references.

You must address the following issues in your content analysis:

o Include an online link of the story along with your paper.

o Briefly summarize the story (approx. 1 paragraph).

o Discuss how the story relates to a topic (or topics) discussed in class. Incorporate references to relevant articles/readings where appropriate. In other words, discuss how the stories reflect themes in the class readings (and cite the readings).

Things you must address in your analysis/paper:

1. How does the story support what you covered in your assigned readings?

2. How does the story differ from what you’ve read?

3. How are victims “reflected” in the media?

4. How is the offender portrayed in the article?

5. Did the story miss anything you think should have been covered?
