Prompt for Essay #2: Revising an Essay
Revise your first essay for this course using feedback and notes in the graded version and lengthen it to a minimum of 4-5 pages. Add academic research (a minimum of 1-2 scholarly sources) to your analysis. Use in-text citations for ALL sources used and list all of your sources on a Works Cited page. *You are just adding 2 more pages to my original copy and editing to the whole paper so it reads smoothly.*
Revision is a huge part of the writing process! Your first draft should never be your final draft, but sometimes we get really busy in college and wait until the last minute to even begin a major assignment. Use the feedback that I gave you on the first essay, and improve your paper. Use some new source material to work with and build your argument. If you want to use biographical information for an author, the BEST place to start is Gale, for Wikipedia or a Google search on a Works Cited list just looks so sad. It is important to use academic sources for academic papers. You may still also use what are called “popular” sources (these are the type of sources which are not scholarly or peer-reviewed such as magazines, news articles, blogs, memes, youtube videos, etc.) but you still must meet the minimum requirement for academic sources (at least 1-2). It is OK if this is new to you! We don’t go to a new class to learn material we already know! We go to class to learn something new, and to challenge ourselves to improve. The Library at campus can be accessed online for assistance, and the Success Center is also a great place to ask for help on essays.
