Qualitative data analysis food mapping

Assignment_02: Qualitative data analysis In this assignment, you will analyze a set of qualitative data collected from our foodmapping exercise (asynchronous task_07). (1) Go over all the foodmapping posts on Blackboard discussion board and code them. To review how coding works in qualitative research, see lecture slides on qualitative data analysis and Blackstone Ch9.2. (2) Identify categories and themes that you find relevant. Interpret their meanings and make connections. Thicken and enhance the flavor of your data. (3) Write a report where you present what you find, discuss broader implications, and reflect on your experience doing this assignment. What to turn in: Findings (14 points) • Describe what you find analyzing the foodmapping narratives? What are the main themes that jump out? What can they tell us about culture, identity, politics, inequality, family, consumption, etc? (These are just a few possible things that could be explored. You do not need to use them.) • Organize the findings into paragraphs that have clear and coherent ideas. Include a short introductory paragraph summarizing the main points. • As you write, incorporate quotes from the foodmapping narratives to support your points. Remember that your interpretation is the star here. The quotes should only be used selectively to support your ideas, as opposed to stealing the scene. For examples of how to use and incorporate quotes effectively, see the Findings section of the ‘Commitment to Nursing’ article posted on Blackboard. Discussion (6 points) • Discuss the broader meanings of the findings, larger lessons to be drawn, and/or any implications. • Briefly reflect on your experience coding, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting qualitative data. For example: Discuss limitations, challenges, and possible directions for future research. Include 3 or more secondary sources in support of your ideas or to provide background information.

Formatting guidelines: • Except for the quotes, the submission should be double-spaced and in paragraphs. Where quotes are included, they must be single-spaced. • Four typed pages, not including the references. Margins should be 1 inch and use a 10-12 point font. • DOC, PDF, or RTF ONLY via Blackboard. No Mac files. Do not email your work. • Do NOT include a cover sheet; do include your name and assignment #. Submission checklist: • Findings section demonstrates an ability to interpret & code data; and have clear & coherent ideas. • Include an introductory paragraph and a discussion section. • Discussion section addresses the larger lessons learned from the data and methodological reflection. • Quotes are single-spaced, not over-used, and are incorporated effectively to support the main ideas. • The use of 3 or more secondary sources with appropriate citations.
