** If the Real Estate Law Paper in option 3 or 4 is selected the student will need to read the following Supreme Court cases that are/can be related to real estate (Use internet research to find the cases) I tend to focus on recent cases other than the Kelo case that we will discuss in class.
Kelo v City of New London
Knick v Township of Scott, Pennsylvania
Murr v Wisconsin
U.S. Forest Service v. Cowpasture River Preservation Association
Weyerhauser Co v U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Koontz v St. Johns River Management District
Arkansas Game & Fish Commission v United States
Atlantic Richfield Co. v. Christian
Tennessee Wine & Spirits Retailers Association v Thomas
Robers v United States
Bank of America v Caulkett
Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs v The Inclusive Communities Project Inc.
Each will provide an estimated 5-6 page paper identifying how and why these are related to real estate. The student should provide paragraphs about the way that real estate is or can be affected. Some cases will be related to the same real estate topic. Provide detail by giving an abbreviated sentence or two on the conclusion including the vote and the judge that wrote for the court. The student can provide an abbreviated detail of any dissent if the case is not a unanimous vote and they feel it is compelling or interesting. This assignment is a normal paper with an introduction, body and conclusion that is to be double spaced with justified alignment and Times New Roman 12 font. (Do not worry about attaching the cases or citing in the paper deliverable as you should write in your own words here) I would highly advise examining the “Opinion Analysis” of each case on the SCOTUS Blog website as this may make each easier to understand.
