What I’ve learned in the past 4 weeks from the topics covered in chapters one through four that I have read in the author’s textbook, Joseph W. Weiss, Business Ethics: A Stakeholder and Issues Management Approach. Business Ethics is what is wrong and right, including the impact on all stakeholders involved related to BP Deepwater Horizon. Losing an employee, heavier fines.
• Chapter One: Business Ethics, the Changing Environment, and Stakeholder Management: Defines business ethics and familiarizes you with examples of ethics in business practices. Levels of ethical analysis, and what can be expected from a course on business ethics.
• Chapter Two: Ethical Principles: Quick Tests, and Decision-Making Guidelines: Engages you in the discussion of ethics at personal. Professionals, organizational. And international levels. The foundations of ethical principles are presented in context with contemporary ethical decision-making approaches. Individual styles of moral decision making also discussed. Although the approach here is a micro-level one, these principles can be used to examine and explain cooperate strategies and actions as well.
• Chapter Three: Stakeholder and Issues Management Approach: Introduces action-oriented methods for studying social responsibility relationships at the individual employee, group, and organization levels. These methods provide and encourage the incorporation of ethical principles and concepts.
• Chapter Four: The Corporation and External Stakeholders: Presents ethical issues and problems that firms face with external consumers, government, and environmental groups. How moral can and should corporations be and act in commercial dealings? Do corporations have a conscience? Classic and recent cries resulting from corporate and environmental problems are covered.
