2. Read Chapter 2, The Surge, pages 41-74 in The Movement and the Sixties by Terry Anderson

ASSIGNMENT 1: Compare the militant strategies to confront racism advocated by Malcolm X and Stockley Carmichael as seen on Eyes on the Prize with the strategies and tactics used by Martin Luther King and SNCC students as seen in the two films above and as described in Anderson’s book. (5-6 pages)
ASSIGNMENT 2. Would you have joined the Civil Rights movement had you lived in the 1960s? If so, explain what you would have been willing to do and explain your answer. If you would not have participated, give your reasons why. (2 pages)
