Chapter 5, “Social Class Matters.” This assignment asks you to consider social classes in the U.S. as a part of culture and to consider how it may influence people’s thoughts, emotions and actions in a society.
The paper should be double spaced and at least 2 pages, and no longer than 3 pages.
Choose a topic relating to social class. For example there have been recent stories about the Mayor of Boston starting programs to educate poor parents to talk more to their children, because it is supposed to increase their intelligence. Briefly summarize the event or story. Analyze why social class matters. Try to explore the topic from differing perspectives.
Apply your knowledge from reading Chapter 5 in your book for explanations of terms and concepts. Maybe explore socioeconomic labels like middle class and upper middle class. What is happening in the media with these terms. How can you apply what you are reading in the book to what you are seeing in the media?
Please make at least one reference to the textbook and use APA style for citing the textbook.
Conclude the paper with by considering the questions, “What have I learned from this assignment?”
Remember to keep the paper U.S. focused.
You will be expected to cite at least 2 sources for each paper—the media article and the textbook. Note the source at the end of the paper, whether or not it is specifically referred to in the text.
