METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
Class sessions will be conducted in an online environment. We will attempt to maintain as much of the traditional classroom approach as possible while utilizing the convenience and benefits of online study. Generally, this class will employ a Socratic method of instruction. This practice involves lecturing, asking a series of questions surrounding a central issue, and answering questions of the others involved. Generally, this involves the defense of one point of view against another and is oppositional. With this in mind, class sessions will consist of the Instructor’s lectures and student discussions based on the lectures. Students will be expected to read the assigned material and participate in the class discussions and answer questions. Course topics will also be drawn from current events. The student is expected to follow current events and be prepared to discuss. The purpose of sessions is not to review the assigned reading material verbatim. The text is a basic starting point and often discussions and questions will draw on the text and also from other sources. The exams will cover any of the information presented in the text, current events, discussions, and the assignments.
