The Questions – for Discussion and Research Paper
The following questions will help you frame your on-line discussion and individual research. This
assignment is NOT meant to be a Q&A. You do not need to dive into the technical details (keep it as non-
technical as you can), but your coverage should at least clearly explain what 5G is and what it can do. I
am more interested in what you think of this new technology and how, why, and in what ways you think
5G will be used.
1. What is 5G technology? Describe how it works.
2. Where is 5G being used?
3. How will 5G contribute to enable a smarter and more connected world?
4. What are some of the potential applications of 5G and how it is going to change people,
businesses, and society in general?
5. How will 5G affect the global economy?
6. Does 5G pose health risks to people? Is 5G safe?
7. Why do you think the U.S. is fighting over 5G with China (Huawei in particular)?
8. Why do you think the U.S. is pushing an initiative called “The Clean Network” (Clean Carrier,
Clean Apps, Clean Store, Clean Cloud, Clean Cable, Clean Path)?
This assignment is both a collective and individual learning experience. Please read and follow the

The paper will have two main parts.
Part 1. The first part of the report is research-based, and spends time reviewing the basic questions and
giving support for concepts and ideas. In this first part you research where the technology came from,
and what is currently happening. In this section it is often helpful to use overview summaries for each
area within the topic. Use subject headings. Use point form for lists of related items. Wherever possible
create infographics (SmartArts or Charts or other), so that it is not just plain text. Be brief and to the
point while fully exploring the background of the topic.
Part 2. After the research portion of the report, the second part is forward looking. In this second part,
you review what others are saying about the future of the technology and reflect on how this may end
up affecting your business, industry, career, or society as a whole. Look at positive and negative impacts.
How will you adapt to those changes? What can you do to prepare? This application should happen at a
macro (industry, society) AND micro level (organizational, personal).
Marks will be awarded for accurate information, the depth of research provided, thoughts given to the
research topic, and the amount of effort put into addressing the above questions (you don’t have to
answer each and every single one of them) and more importantly your opinion on the technology and
how it may affect you.
Your answer should represent your thoughts, opinions and words supported by research. Seek some
high-quality sources, for example, white papers from consulting firms, or peer-reviewed academic
papers. Try for 6 or 8 sources: 3 or 4 sources is not enough. When including information from these
sources, reference the source in a footnote and a bibliography at the end, and always use quotation
marks if the source is quoted verbatim
